| The Basics |
Character Name: Harry James Potter PB: Daniel Radcliffe Age: 21 Birthday: July 31 Wand: Holly, eleven inches, core a phoenix feather from Fawkes House in School: Gryffindor Bloodline: Pureblood—parents both magical, though Lily’s family is not. Political View: Strongly affiliated with the Order of the Phoenix. |
| Appearance |
Height: 5’10 Weight: 175 Eyes: Bright green Hair: Black and unruly Build: Quite skinny—Harry has always been somewhat underweight for his age, but his relatively recent ordeals and somewhat reclusive life have caused him to become skinnier than ever. Dress Style: Whatever’s comfortable, whether wizarding robes or a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Basic Physical Description: Mixing traits from both his parents, Harry has perpetually ruffled and messy black hair and bright green eyes, a somewhat thin and angular face, and wears round glasses for near-sightedness. His most striking feature (or at least the feature that gets noticed the most) is the lightning-shaped scar on his forehead that angles toward his right brow, a relic of his first encounter with Voldemort. His build is skinny and wiry and he stands slightly short for his age. |
| Personality |
Harry’s personality is dominated by stubbornness, independence, loyalty, and courage. He doesn’t particularly enjoy getting in trouble, but it seems to find him quite often, and he handles it accordingly—not without his fears for his friends and himself, but by managing to ignore the fear long enough to deal with the problem at hand. He cares deeply for his friends despite their flaws, acknowledging that he himself is not the easiest person to be friends with, and shows his gratitude for their loyalty to him by offering completely loyalty in return. If there was anything at all he could do to help a friend in trouble, he would do it, no questions asked. He has a tendency to leap before he looks, and is stubborn enough to hold grudges, though his opinion can be changed. Harry’s greatest weakness is his impulsiveness, which has played a significant role in some of the events and tragedies of his young life, particularly his godfather’s death. He is also judgmental, holding biases against certain groups of people. He greatly dislikes injustice and unfairness, and responds to people according by how they treat him—past experiences have taught him not to trust too easily, but he gives most people (other than those he is prejudiced toward) the benefit of the doubt. |
| Psychology |
Extrovert/Introvert: Introvert. Harry enjoys the company of his friends, but he doesn’t like being in big crowds, particularly where he is constantly being noticed. He cherishes solitude. Boggart: Harry’s boggart is a Dementor—suggesting, as Remus Lupin once told him, that what Harry fears most is fear itself. Dementors have the terrible effect of paralyzing Harry, rendering him powerless with torturous memories of loss, unless he is able to defend himself. Patronus: Harry can produce a fully corporeal Patronus, which takes the form of a stag—the animal that James Potter, his father, was capable of transforming into as an Animagus, showing Harry’s deep affinity for his deceased father. Thus it is, on many levels, a protective father figure, standing in between Harry and harm’s way as a parent would do, as well as a signal that a part of James Potter lives on inside Harry. |
| Sexuality |
Straight, as evidenced by Harry’s crush on Cho Chang throughout his fourth and some of his fifth year, and a powerful infatuation, culminating in a brief relationship, with Ginny Weasley in sixth year. Since then Harry hasn’t had much to do with romantic relationships, though he still cares a great deal for Ginny. |
| Lifestyle |
Occupation: None at the moment. Harry lives on his inheritance, though he has considered both going into Auror training or trying out for Seeker on a professional team as possible career paths. Residence: Permanent: the Phoenix, a large house near Hogwarts where he has lived with Ron and Hermione the past couple of years. Temporary: a small flat in London, acquired recently, where he stays for a few days at a time in between traveling. Financial Status: Well off. Harry’s inheritance won’t last him forever, but he uses it quite sparingly, aside from large purchases such as the house. |
| Family |
Parents: James and Lily Potter, both deceased. Siblings: None Harry lacks family and therefore a family dynamic, but his parents have been a great influence on his life despite being absent for it—inspiring him by their examples of courage and dedication to doing what is right. |
| History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time |
Harry’s career as a student at Hogwarts was characterized by great personal triumphs and equally great personal tragedies. He gained two very close friends, a godfather, memories of and connections to his deceased parents and some of their friends, as well as a lot of success, glory, and infamy as a Quidditch player, Triwizard Champion, and notable troublemaker. However, many of these high points of his life were marred by the shadow of his destiny as the “Chosen One,” which he would eventually discover in his fifth year. The gradual revelations of how and why his parents died, his connection to Voldemort, his status as the “Boy Who Lived” and later the “Chosen One,” and his final task set him apart from his classmates as a young man who can never quite lead a “normal” life, no matter how much he may wish to. The deaths of his godfather Sirius Black and Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, both father figures to him in their ways, led to his acceptance of his destiny and his choice to leave school and pursue the remaining Horcruxes for the purpose of ultimately defeating Voldemort. With the help of Ron and Hermione, as well as information from Remus Lupin and Aberforth Dumbledore, Harry sought out and destroyed each of the Horcruxes, never suspecting that much of Lupin’s most valuable information came from none other than his bitter enemy Severus Snape—a man Harry wound up hating far more than Voldemort for the crime of murdering Dumbledore right before his eyes. His quest mostly kept him away from the chaos of the war—though far from being grateful to steer clear of death, destruction, and mayhem, Harry hated being unable to help his friends and allies as they fought and died to hold the enemy at bay. It was Hermione and Ron who reminded him time and time again of the importance of finding and destroying the Horcruxes to end the war once and for all—of how pointless it would ultimately be for him to abandon the journey and fight, how many more people would die. Forced to accept the deaths of friends and allies—as well as events such as Bellatrix Lestrange’s insanity plea—as casualties of war, Harry threw himself furiously into the effort of finding and destroying every last Horcrux, loathing himself all the while. The hardest decision Harry ever had to make came after the destruction of the last Horcrux, when he at last opted to ask for the help of friends other than Ron and Hermione—friends loyal to him from the D.A. and the Order of the Phoenix—to draw out Voldemort for a final battle, with Hogwarts as the battleground, and Harry’s friends as bait. Knowing that Voldemort would, as he often had before, attack his loved ones in order to get to him, Harry and his friends nonetheless returned openly to Hogwarts to help train the students for combat, knowing it was only a matter of time before Voldemort attacked. They were right, of course, and a terrible battle raged on for days—eventually resulting in Harry being forced to abandon his friends once more and face Voldemort alone in the Chamber of Secrets. Emerging victorious after the battle’s climactic conclusion, Harry never, ever spoke a word about what had taken place in the depths of the school between him and Voldemort—not even to his closest friends. In the weeks following the war Harry did what he could to help the wizarding community mourn its losses and rebuild, and watched with a sinking feeling as new sources of prejudice and strife appeared—many directly from the Ministry—and stood by helplessly and furiously as people such as Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy were granted pardons. He listened to Remus Lupin’s explanations about Snape and his role in the war, and grudgingly, bitterly came to accept that he had succeeded with Snape’s help—though the revelation that Snape’s murder of Dumbledore had occurred under the orders of Dumbledore himself left him feeling shocked, shaken, and betrayed—feelings he has so far refused to explore and come to terms with. He was granted the Order of Merlin, First Class, and found in himself a new skittishness around crowds, around people who knew him and noticed him and called him their saviour. And one day Harry simply left—abandoned his flat in London and set off on an on-and-off journey through Europe that has lasted for a few months now, aside from instances when he has returned to the U.K. in between travel, for events such as Seamus’s wedding. |
